6 Expert Tips to Keep Your Skin Smooth in Winter

by Posch Care 13 Dec 2022 0 Comments

Are you the one whose skin gets affected by changing seasons? If so, you would’ve been worried about the winter knocking at your door to turn your nourished and youthful skin into dry and flaky.

During winter, cold breezes outside can turn your skin red and dry, while heat inside the home zaps all the moisture, taking away all the glow. In such a situation, it seems like there is no escape from this.

But don’t worry, as we have gathered some expert tips to help you keep your skin smooth and healthy when the temperature dips.

1. Always Use Moisturizer

Using a moisturizer after washing hands, face or body is essential to keep your skin’s natural oil balanced, avoiding it from getting dry, especially during winter.

So, it’s better to ensure that there is a bottle of moisturizer right beside the hand wash in your restroom or a pocket-size bottle that you can keep while traveling.

2. Never Ignore Sunscreen

Many people avoid sunscreen when the mercury starts dropping. Are you one of them? If yes, you should reconsider your decision this winter.

There is no denying that winter days are shorter with low sunlight, but it doesn’t mean that harmful UV rays are not there.

However, to keep your moisture barrier safe and robust, you must apply sunscreen before sun exposure.

3. Apply Emollients Overnight

Applying emollients overnight is an excellent way to keep your skin moisturized all day. However, unlike body lotions, emollients take a long time to fully absorb into the skin.

It is the reason you should use them overnight, as there will be enough time for heavy creams and ointments to get absorbed and produce desired results.

4. Use Skin-friendly Products

Cool breezes irritate sensitive skin, and to battle it out, you need to make some changes in your skincare routine.

For instance, if you use serums and mists that include alcohol or fragrance, you must ensure that your skin’s barrier is powerful. Otherwise, these beauty treatments would turn into irritants during winter.

So, instead of using such products, you should consider moisturizers, sunscreen during the day, and a soothing cleanser at night.

5. Avoid Over-Exfoliation

Exfoliating skin two to three times a week can help you keep clear and bright skin all the time, throwing away all the impurities and toxins.

However, doing it on a regular basis can lead to over-exfoliation, resulting in redness and irritation.

6. Incorporate Occlusives

If you think emollients aren’t doing well in soothing your dry skin, add products with occlusive ingredients like shea butter, cocoa butter, jojoba oil, and rosehip oil to your skincare routine.

These ingredients help boost the skin’s physical barrier to seal moisture, helping you get and maintain a youthful-looking, glowing look.

The Bottom Line

There is no denying that skin gets dry and dull in winter. From the face and neck to hands and feet, all the areas exposed to cold breeze get flaky or cracked.

However, to avoid all these winter skin problems, you should consider following the tips discussed above.
